Writing for the Web
Writing a sea of text on the Internet is as effective as placing the transcript of your speech in a Powerpoint presentation. There is a better way.
We must adapt our writing style to accommodate for this new medium.
FACT: Web visitors do not read, they scan.
- Display paragraphs with no more than 2-3 sentences
- Utilize subheaders for easy scanning
- Use bullet points to get to the point quickly
- Create white-space for improved readability
- Accent content using boldface type and other techniques
- Utilize instructional design to limit page content
Deliver content quickly and efficiently to keep visitor attention.
